Vanavil Calibrations

Anesthesia machine calibration for operation theatres and day-care surgery

Flowmeters, vaporizers, the integrated ventilator, oxygen safety devices and leak integrity checked on site with calibrated gas flow and gas analysers.

Anesthesia machine calibration verifies that the gas flows, vapour concentrations, ventilator volumes and pressures an anaesthesia workstation delivers match its settings, using a calibrated gas flow analyser and gas analyser. It also checks oxygen failure protection, hypoxic guard, breathing system leaks, alarms and in-service electrical safety to IEC 62353.

What anesthesia machine calibration covers

An anaesthesia machine combines a gas supply system, flowmeters, vaporizers, a breathing system and usually a ventilator. Each part can drift or leak independently. Anesthesia machine calibration looks at each subsystem in turn and then at the machine as a whole, under realistic operating conditions.

Our engineers use a calibrated gas flow analyser for flows, volumes and pressures, a test lung for ventilator checks, and a gas analyser for oxygen and, where included, anaesthetic agent concentration at the common gas outlet. Results are recorded as found and compared with the manufacturer's tolerance.

Anaesthesia workstation calibration is often planned with ventilator calibration, patient monitor calibration and electrosurgical unit calibration, so the whole theatre is covered under one medical equipment calibration schedule.

Anesthesia machine calibration in an operation theatre with a gas flow analyser

Why anaesthesia workstation calibration matters

Gas delivery

Flowmeter and vaporizer errors change what the patient receives. Independent measurement shows whether the dial matches the output.

Hypoxia protection

Oxygen failure alarms and oxygen-nitrous oxide proportioning devices are safety systems. They are tested deliberately, not assumed to work.

Leak control

Leaks waste gas, expose theatre staff to anaesthetic agents and make ventilation less predictable. Leak tests quantify them.

Parameters checked in anesthesia machine calibration

  • Flowmeter accuracy for oxygen, nitrous oxide and air
  • Vaporizer output concentration at selected dial settings, where an agent analyser check is included
  • Oxygen failure alarm and cut-off, and hypoxic guard / proportioning system
  • Integrated ventilator: tidal volume, rate, pressure, PEEP and I:E ratio
  • Breathing system and low-pressure leak tests, APL valve function
  • Oxygen flush and common gas outlet flow
  • Pipeline and cylinder pressure gauges, oxygen sensor and alarms
  • Electrical safety per IEC 62353

Boyle's apparatus calibration for continuous-flow machines

Many smaller hospitals and nursing homes still use a Boyle's apparatus or a basic continuous-flow machine without an integrated ventilator. Boyle's apparatus calibration focuses on flowmeters, vaporizer output, oxygen failure warning, pressure gauges and leak integrity.

Older machines often show worn flowmeter tubes, sticking bobbins, cracked rubber parts and leaking vaporizer seals. These are noted on the report so your team can plan servicing or replacement.

The same documentation format is used for older and newer machines, so your equipment register stays consistent across the theatre complex.

How often anesthesia machine calibration is done

Hospitals commonly schedule anesthesia machine calibration once a year, in addition to the manufacturer's preventive maintenance and the daily pre-use check performed by the anaesthesia team.

Calibrate again after repairs, vaporizer servicing, flowmeter replacement, relocation of the machine, or whenever the pre-use check or clinical use raises a concern. The biomedical department sets the final interval.

Keep each certificate with the equipment record, enter the next due date in your maintenance schedule and show both to auditors when asked. We keep a record of due dates for every client and can send a reminder before the next visit is needed, so nothing slips out of calibration between audits.

On-site anesthesia machine calibration in Tamil Nadu

Machines are tested inside your theatre complex, between lists, so surgical schedules are not disrupted. We work with theatre staff to plan the order of rooms.

We serve hospitals in Salem, Namakkal, Erode, Coimbatore, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri and other districts. For theatre air quality, see our OT validation and hospital calibration services.

Certificates record machine details, reference instruments, as-found and as-left results and measurement uncertainty, and are issued within the laboratory's NABL scope where applicable.

Frequently asked questions

Flowmeters, vaporizer output, integrated ventilator, oxygen failure and hypoxic guard systems, leak tests, gauges, alarms and IEC 62353 electrical safety.
Annually is common practice, along with the manufacturer's maintenance and the daily pre-use check by the anaesthesia team.
Yes. Boyle's apparatus calibration covers flowmeters, vaporizer output, oxygen failure warning, gauges and leaks.
We measure vaporizer output and report it against the dial setting. Internal adjustment of a vaporizer is a manufacturer or authorised service task.
Certificates are traceable to national standards and issued within the laboratory's NABL scope where applicable. Ask us for the current scope.
