Ventilator calibration services for ICUs and operation theatres
Performance verification of ICU, transport, neonatal and non-invasive ventilators with a calibrated gas flow analyser and test lung, carried out at your hospital.
What ventilator calibration services cover
A ventilator measures and controls flow and pressure many times each breath. Flow sensors foul, oxygen cells deplete, valves wear and internal calibrations drift. The ventilator's own self-test checks some of this, but it uses the ventilator's own sensors. Ventilator performance testing uses an independent, calibrated reference.
We connect the ventilator to a gas flow analyser and a test lung of known compliance and resistance, then run standard settings in volume and pressure modes. The analyser records delivered tidal volume, pressures, rate, I:E ratio and FiO2, which we compare with the set values and the manufacturer's tolerance.
Ventilator calibration is usually scheduled with patient monitor calibration and anesthesia machine calibration under one medical equipment calibration plan.

Why ventilator performance testing matters
Lung protection
Ventilation strategies depend on accurate tidal volume and pressure. Delivered values that differ from the screen undermine those settings.
Oxygen accuracy
Depleted oxygen sensors can show the wrong FiO2. An independent analyser check catches this before it reaches the patient.
Alarm confidence
Disconnection, high pressure and low minute volume alarms must trigger reliably. Each is tested during the visit.
Parameters checked during ventilator calibration
- Delivered tidal volume and minute volume
- Peak inspiratory pressure and plateau pressure
- PEEP / CPAP accuracy
- Respiratory rate and I:E ratio or inspiratory time
- FiO2 delivered against set oxygen concentration
- Flow and trigger sensitivity
- Alarms: high and low pressure, disconnection, apnoea, low minute volume, oxygen and power failure
- Electrical safety per IEC 62353, leak test and battery operation
Ventilators we calibrate
- ICU ventilators
- NICU and PICU ventilators
- Transport ventilators
- Non-invasive BiPAP / CPAP
- High-flow devices
- Emergency departments
- Step-down units
- Ambulances
How often ventilator calibration services are scheduled
Hospitals commonly book ventilator calibration services once a year, alongside the manufacturer's preventive maintenance, which may include sensor and filter replacement at set operating hours.
A ventilator should be checked again after repair, oxygen sensor or flow sensor replacement, software changes, or if clinicians see unexplained differences between set and measured values. The biomedical team decides the final interval.
Keep each certificate with the equipment record, enter the next due date in your maintenance schedule and show both to auditors when asked. We keep a record of due dates for every client and can send a reminder before the next visit is needed, so nothing slips out of calibration between audits.
On-site ventilator calibration services in Tamil Nadu
Ventilators are tested at your hospital between patients, so there is no shipping risk and no long downtime. We coordinate with ICU staff so a tested, ready ventilator is always available.
Our engineers serve hospitals across Salem, Namakkal, Erode, Coimbatore, Dharmapuri, Tiruchirappalli and nearby districts. See our hospital calibration services and ICU and isolation room validation for related work.
Each certificate lists the ventilator details, the analyser and test lung used, set and measured values, and measurement uncertainty. Certificates are issued within the laboratory's NABL scope where applicable; ask for the current scope.
Critical care equipment to calibrate together
Ventilated patients usually also depend on infusion and syringe pumps and suction apparatus. Calibrating them in the same visit gives you one consolidated ICU record.
Many ICUs also calibrate pulse oximeters and bedside monitors on the same day, so every device at the bedside carries a current certificate with the same date.
For neonatal units we use test lungs and settings suited to small tidal volumes, so the check reflects how the ventilator is actually used on infants rather than adult settings only.
How the work is carried out
Plan
Share your ventilator list with make, model and location. We plan testing around patient use.
Test
Each ventilator runs standard settings into a calibrated gas flow analyser and test lung, with alarm and FiO2 checks.
