Vanavil Calibrations

Medical scale calibration services for hospitals, clinics and NICUs

Traceable calibration of baby, adult, chair, bed and platform scales used for dosing, nutrition and fluid monitoring, with clear reports for biomedical and quality teams.

Medical scale calibration services check a hospital scale against traceable standard weights at several loads across its range. The engineer records accuracy, repeatability, corner-load (eccentricity) error and zero behaviour, compares them with the scale specification, and issues a report showing the as-found and as-left condition.

What our medical scale calibration services include

Weight drives many clinical decisions, from paediatric drug doses and chemotherapy calculations to dialysis fluid removal and neonatal growth charts. Our medical scale calibration services confirm that each scale reads correctly at the loads it actually handles, not only at zero.

Testing uses standard weights with traceable calibration. Loads are applied in steps up to a practical portion of capacity, and the indicated value is recorded at each point. For large bed and wheelchair scales, a combination of standard weights and substitution loads may be used where full-capacity weights are not practical on-site.

Hospital weighing scale calibration also covers how the scale is installed: levelling, stable flooring and freedom from drafts or vibration. Laboratory balances are handled separately under weighing balance calibration, and the work can be scheduled with your wider medical equipment calibration plan.

Medical scale calibration services using traceable standard weights on a hospital scale

Why hospital weighing scale calibration matters

Accurate dosing

Weight-based doses for children, oncology and critical care rely on a correct reading at low and mid loads.

Neonatal care

Baby weighing scale calibration supports reliable daily weight trends where small changes carry clinical meaning.

Audit records

Quality audits expect each scale to carry a current calibration status, traceable to its report.

Checks in medical scale calibration services

  • Accuracy at multiple loads across the working range
  • Repeatability with the same load applied several times
  • Eccentricity or corner-load error
  • Zero setting and return to zero
  • Tare function
  • Levelling and installation condition
  • Display resolution and stability
  • Battery and mains supply condition

Scales we calibrate

  • Baby and infant scales
  • Adult column scales
  • Digital platform scales
  • Chair scales
  • Bed and stretcher scales
  • Wheelchair scales
  • Dialysis unit scales
  • BMI stations

How hospital weighing scale calibration is done

The scale is cleaned, levelled and allowed to stabilise. Readings are taken as found first, so the report reflects how the scale was performing in use. Loads are then applied in increasing steps, and repeatability is checked by applying the same load several times and noting the spread.

For eccentricity, a load is placed at the centre and then at each corner or edge of the platform. Baby weighing scale calibration uses smaller weights and finer steps, matching the low loads seen in neonatal units. If an adjustment is permitted and made, the full test is repeated and recorded as left.

Most medical scale calibration services are delivered on-site, because bed and platform scales are not easy to move. Work is performed within the laboratory's NABL scope where applicable, so ask for the scope if you need accredited reports.

Calibration and Legal Metrology verification are different things. Calibration measures and documents the error of a scale against traceable standards. Legal Metrology verification and stamping is a separate statutory requirement under the weights and measures law, handled through the Legal Metrology department or authorised agencies.

Hospitals often need both: a stamped scale for legal compliance and a calibration report for clinical quality and accreditation. A calibration report does not replace Legal Metrology verification, and a stamp does not provide the measurement data an audit may ask for.

Our medical scale calibration services provide the calibration report. If your scales also require statutory verification, check the due dates with your Legal Metrology authority and plan both activities together.

How often scales should be calibrated

Annual calibration is common for hospital scales, with shorter intervals for high-use units such as NICU, dialysis and OPD scales. Recalibrate after a scale is moved, dropped, repaired or when staff see inconsistent readings.

Each report lists test loads, indicated values, errors, repeatability and eccentricity results, reference weights used, environmental conditions and the engineer's remarks.

Keep each certificate with the equipment record, enter the next due date in your maintenance schedule and show both to auditors when asked. We keep a record of due dates for every client and can send a reminder before the next visit is needed, so nothing slips out of calibration between audits.

Frequently asked questions

Medical scale calibration services check accuracy at several loads, repeatability, eccentricity, zero and tare using traceable standard weights, with as-found and as-left results.
Yes. Baby weighing scale calibration uses smaller weights and finer load steps suited to infant scales in NICUs and paediatric wards.
Yes. Most medical scale calibration services are done on-site, especially for bed, chair and platform scales.
No. Legal Metrology verification is a separate statutory requirement. A calibration report documents measurement error for quality and accreditation purposes.
Usually once a year, with shorter intervals for heavily used scales and extra checks after moving, repair or doubtful readings.
