Hot air oven calibration services for laboratories, pharma and industry

Multi-point temperature calibration of hot air ovens, drying ovens and laboratory ovens, showing how the chamber really performs against the controller display.

Hot air oven calibration services measure the actual chamber temperature at multiple locations, usually nine points, using calibrated sensors and a data logger. The results show controller accuracy, oven temperature uniformity across the chamber and stability over time at the set point you use.

What hot air oven calibration services cover

An oven controller reads one sensor at one location. The samples, glassware or product in the chamber may be at a different temperature. Hot air oven calibration services close that gap by placing calibrated thermocouples or RTDs across the working volume and recording them together over a defined period.

The common layout is nine points: one at each corner of the usable volume and one at the geometric centre. Larger ovens may need more points. The logger records at a fixed interval once the chamber has stabilised, so the report captures both the spread between locations and how much each location varies over time.

Laboratory oven calibration is done at the set points you actually use, such as drying, curing or dry-heat temperatures, rather than one generic value. Sensors and loggers are calibrated with traceability, as described on our temperature calibration page.

Hot air oven calibration services with multi-point sensors for temperature uniformity

Why oven temperature uniformity matters

Consistent results

Moisture, ash and drying tests depend on every sample seeing the intended temperature, not only the one near the controller sensor.

Process assurance

Dry-heat and curing processes need evidence that cold spots still reach the required temperature.

Audit evidence

GMP, GLP and ISO/IEC 17025 audits expect documented uniformity and controller accuracy data.

How laboratory oven calibration is performed

Sensors are placed in a fixed pattern and the oven is run to the set point. Once stable, readings are logged for an agreed period. The report gives the mean, minimum and maximum at each location, the overall spread across the chamber, and the difference between the controller display and the measured mean.

Readings are recorded as found. If the controller offset is adjusted by the user or service engineer, the test is repeated and recorded as left. Empty-chamber testing is standard; loaded testing can be planned when your process requires it. Detailed spatial studies over longer periods are covered by temperature mapping.

Hot air oven calibration services are normally done on-site because ovens are fixed installations. Reference sensors and loggers are traceable to national standards, and calibration is performed within the laboratory's NABL scope where applicable; ask for the scope when booking.

How often hot air oven calibration services are needed

Annual calibration is common, but critical ovens used for sterilisation, validation batches or regulated testing may need six-monthly checks under your quality system. Recalibrate after heater, fan, sensor or controller replacement.

Between calibrations, a simple weekly check with a calibrated reference thermometer at the centre of the chamber helps detect drift early. Record it in the equipment logbook, and if the difference from the controller grows beyond your limit, arrange laboratory oven calibration before the next scheduled date rather than waiting for the annual visit.

Each report lists sensor positions, set points, readings, uniformity and stability results, reference equipment, environmental conditions and remarks, with a clear statement of whether results meet your stated acceptance limits where you provide them.

Keep each certificate with the equipment record, enter the next due date in your maintenance schedule and show both to auditors when asked. We keep a record of due dates for every client and can send a reminder before the next visit is needed, so nothing slips out of calibration between audits.

Frequently asked questions

Hot air oven calibration services measure the chamber at nine or more points to report controller accuracy, oven temperature uniformity and stability at your set points.
Nine points cover the corners and centre of the working volume, which is usually enough to find hot and cold spots in a typical laboratory oven.
Yes. Hot air oven calibration services are done on-site, since ovens are fixed. Sensors and loggers are brought by our engineers.
They overlap. Calibration is a shorter multi-point check; temperature mapping is a longer, more detailed study used for validation.
Typically yearly, or more often for critical ovens, and after any heater, sensor or controller repair.
