Fetal monitor calibration services for labour wards and antenatal clinics
Fetal heart rate, uterine activity, recorder speed and alarms verified on CTG machines and fetal Dopplers using a calibrated fetal simulator, at your hospital.
What fetal monitor calibration services include
A CTG trace is read by pattern: baseline rate, variability, accelerations, decelerations and their timing against contractions. If the fetal heart rate channel reads high or low, the paper runs at the wrong speed or the TOCO channel is off scale, the pattern on paper no longer matches what is happening.
CTG machine calibration uses a fetal simulator that generates fetal heart rate signals at set rates and simulated uterine contractions. We compare the displayed and printed values with the simulator at several points, test both channels on twin monitors, and measure paper speed over a timed run.
Fetal Doppler calibration checks the heart rate display of handheld and table-top Dopplers against the same simulator. This work sits within your wider medical equipment calibration programme.

Why CTG machine calibration matters
Trace interpretation
Obstetric decisions rest on trace patterns. Correct rate, scale and paper speed keep the trace faithful to the signal.
Medico-legal record
A CTG printout is part of the clinical record. A current calibration certificate supports the reliability of that record.
Alarm function
Signal loss and high or low fetal heart rate alarms must work, especially on night shifts and in busy labour wards.
Parameters checked in CTG machine calibration
- Fetal heart rate accuracy across low, normal and high simulated rates
- Second channel accuracy on twin monitors
- TOCO (uterine activity) channel response and zero
- Recorder paper speed at selectable settings
- Event marker, time and date printing
- FHR high, low and signal-loss alarms
- Maternal heart rate, SpO2 or NIBP where the monitor includes them
- Electrical safety per IEC 62353 and inspection of transducers and belts
Where fetal monitors are calibrated

- Antenatal clinics
- Maternity hospitals
- High-risk pregnancy units
- Obstetric operation theatres
- Fertility and IVF centres

Fetal Doppler calibration for handheld units
Handheld fetal Dopplers are used many times a day in antenatal clinics and wards. Their probes are dropped, cables twist and batteries weaken, and the display can drift without staff noticing.
Fetal Doppler calibration checks the displayed heart rate against the simulator at several rates, confirms audio output and battery operation, and records any physical damage to the probe or cable.
How often fetal monitor calibration services are scheduled
Most hospitals include fetal monitor calibration services in their annual equipment plan, following the manufacturer's maintenance guidance. Machines in busy labour wards may justify closer attention.
Calibrate again after repair, transducer replacement, a drop, or whenever midwives or obstetricians notice traces that do not match the clinical picture. The biomedical team decides the final interval.
Keeping CTG, Doppler and maternal monitor records together makes it easier to show complete documentation for the maternity unit during accreditation reviews.
Keep each certificate with the equipment record, enter the next due date in your maintenance schedule and show both to auditors when asked. We keep a record of due dates for every client and can send a reminder before the next visit is needed, so nothing slips out of calibration between audits.
On-site fetal monitor calibration services in Tamil Nadu
CTG machines and Dopplers are tested at your hospital, unit by unit, so the labour ward always keeps working monitors. We coordinate timing with the ward in charge.
We serve maternity hospitals and clinics across Salem, Namakkal, Erode, Coimbatore, Dharmapuri, Krishnagiri and nearby districts. See our hospital calibration services, plus related patient monitor calibration and blood pressure monitor calibration.
Certificates show device details, simulator used, set and measured values and measurement uncertainty, and are issued within the laboratory's NABL scope where applicable.
